Tony Romo Arrested for DUI in Wisconsin

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was arrested for driving under the influence in Wisconsin on July 23. Newly released police body camera footage reveals details from the investigation.

Romo informed the officers that he had just come from the golf course and insisted he had consumed “zero” alcohol. He also requested that they contact his attorney. When asked to exit the vehicle, he responded, “Do you think I’m drunk because I’m coming from the golf course?”

Subsequently, police took Romo into custody and transported him to a nearby station for field sobriety tests. The arresting officer reported observing red, glassy eyes and detecting the smell of alcohol.

After the tests, Romo declined to take a breathalyzer, stating, “I’ve heard from all my lawyers that they would never do that.” He faced charges for first offense intoxication and refusing a chemical test. Romo was released and has a court appearance set for September 21.

Prior to his arrest, Romo was pulled over on the interstate after participating in the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship. Although he was scheduled to compete in another tournament, he withdrew over the weekend. Romo, who retired in 2017, began a career with CBS as a color commentator.

Romo’s NFL career spanned from 2006 to 2015, during which he started for the Cowboys before being replaced by Dak Prescott. His impressive stats included over 34,000 passing yards and 248 touchdowns. He was also named to the Pro Bowl four times.

Interestingly, Romo went 2-4 in the playoffs, with a notable moment being the mishap with a potential game-winning field goal against the Seattle Seahawks. Instead of securing the kick, he attempted to run the ball, resulting in a turnover that cost them the game.

Since retiring, Romo has teamed up with Jim Nantz and is well recognized for covering significant events, including three Super Bowls. He has not publicly commented on his arrest yet.
