Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) blames Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Barbra Streisand in part for her redistricting decision.
Boebert Hollywood said in an interview on Steve Bannon's “War Room” podcast on Saturday that Hollywood stars are “trying to buy” current congressional districts by donating to Democratic opponent Adam Frisch. denounced. She said her reason for switching from the state's 3rd Congressional District to the 4th Congressional District was “how can we best protect and advance conservative principles.”
“But we need a strong voice there and we have to shut down the Hollywood elites who are trying to buy my current district,” she said. “Although nearly $10 million has been poured into this district to buy seats, Colorado's 3rd Congressional District is not for sale.”
Boebert announced the district change last week, which means she will avoid a rematch with Frisch. She narrowly defeated Frisch in the 2022 midterm elections by about 546 votes. Since then, Mr. Frisch has outraised Ms. Boebert, raising $7.7 million in campaign contributions to her $2.2 million.
Boebert has repeatedly said she will “not tolerate dark money” to “steal this seat.” She echoed that sentiment in her recent interview, where she reiterated that her opponents are funded by Hollywood.
“When Barbra Streisand comes and donates to the Democratic Party, when Ryan Reynolds comes and donates to the Democratic Party, it's coming from Hollywood,” she said. “This shows that Hollywood is trying to make inroads into Congress.”
according to federal election commission Mr. Streisand donated $1,000 to Mr. Frisch's campaign in April, and Mr. Reynolds gave $500 in March, according to the filing.
Boebert will run for Rep. Ken Buck's (R-Colo.) seat after announcing last year that she planned not to seek reelection. The switch opens up the Republican nomination for the state's 3rd Congressional District and increases the chances that the Republican candidate will defeat Frisch, as Boebert has been mired in controversy during her tenure.
