Boebert supports requests for a special counsel on Epstein files

Boebert joins calls for Epstein files special counsel

Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), a close associate of President Trump, supported a call for an investigation into how the case files related to Jeffrey Epstein, a former investor and convicted sex offender, have been handled.

Boebert expressed on social media, “We deserve the truth about the Epstein Files. I’m prepared to act as a special lawyer for this.” She made this statement on Tuesday.

She suggested that the investigation could be overseen by former Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who had previously considered withdrawing his name from the running for Trump’s attorney general position due to some disputes.

“@mattgaetz, what do you think?” Boebert added.

Her remarks followed an interview earlier that day with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, where she emphasized the need for clarity regarding the Epstein case.

“Naturally, I want an answer,” Boebert stated. “Everyone is unhappy with the current information—or lack of it. It’s just disappointing how this has unfolded.”

“I believe if we’re going to proceed, we need a special lawyer,” she continued. “It’s necessary. If the details aren’t revealed, we definitely need a thorough investigation.”

Last week, the Justice Department and FBI announced that Epstein did not have a client list, confirming that he died by suicide in a New York City prison in 2019.

This announcement has angered members of the MAGA movement, who have long pushed conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s death, suggesting that powerful Democrats might appear on his client list.

Even some die-hard Trump supporters, like far-right activist Laura Rumer, criticized how the files are being handled and called for special advisors to look into the matter.

Attorney General Pam Bondy, in particular, faces heavy scrutiny following her earlier commitment to transparency regarding the Epstein files. She defended the Justice Department’s actions last week, and Trump has staunchly supported Bondy amidst the backlash.

Boebert acknowledged the accomplishments of the Trump administration but insisted that the Epstein files should not overshadow these successes. Yet, she maintained that a resolution on the matter is crucial.

“There’s a lot happening that’s positive, Attorney General Pam Bondy. President Trump is achieving many good things. The FBI is performing admirably. Our Department of Homeland Security is making strides,” she noted.

“But we can’t ignore this issue. I hope it doesn’t end up as a distraction for Republicans. Nevertheless, we do want answers.”

“This is significant, and I want clarification. Perhaps it requires that special lawyer to get there. Maybe Matt Gaetz could lead a special advisor,” she concluded in the interview.
