Former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said Tuesday that the confusion surrounding Biden’s campaign is helping former President Trump as Democrats question Biden’s health and mental competency.
“If President Trump wins in November, his victory speech on election night should begin with, ‘I want to thank Joe Biden and the Democratic Party,'” Bolton said in a radio interview Tuesday with John Catsmatidis and Rita Cosby on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats & Cosby Show.”
After his poor performance in last month’s debate, Democrats are growing concerned about whether Biden can beat Trump in November.
Seven House Democrats have publicly called on Biden to drop out of the race and field another candidate, and there is a growing call for him to quickly prove he can be a viable candidate. Biden has steadfastly rejected calls to drop out of the race.
Bolton, who also served as national security adviser in the Trump administration, said Biden’s age issue could be a loss for Democrats overall in the election.
“I don’t know what the Democrats will do,” he said. “They may jump off a cliff like lemmings because they can’t imagine standing up to the cult of personality that they’re facing within the Democratic Party.”
The two candidates remain neck and neck in national polls, with Trump leading Biden by 1.3 percentage points in The Hill/Decision Desk polling average.
