Bolton reassessing whether to write in Dick Cheney on ballot after former VP endorses Harris

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton had previously said he would endorse former Vice President Dick Cheney for the November presidential election, but on Thursday Cheney and his daughter, former Congresswoman Liz Cheney ( (Republican, Wyoming) revealed that he is considering changing his mind. ), supported Vice President Harris.

“This made me reconsider whether or not I was going to vote for Dick. I try to vote for conservative Republicans, and I think Mr. Dick is definitely a conservative Republican,” Bolton told CNN. He spoke during the performance. “If he wins, which I don't think is very likely, I don't think he'll put Kamala Harris in his Cabinet.”

In a September statement, Dick Cheney called former President Trump a “threat to our country,” said he would vote for Harris, and urged Americans not to run for re-election.

But Bolton remains unconvinced as to which presidential candidate should take the job.

“I'm not going to vote for Harris or Trump. Neither of them are qualified to be president.”

He later added that the two options were “unacceptable” and “we don't want to see either of them” in the Situation Room dealing with Middle East conflicts.

“Neither is acceptable to me. It's a matter of my conscience. I'm not going to choose between two unacceptable options just because one is less acceptable than the other. , neither of them meet the minimum test of suitability for president. Of course, I understand that one will win, but I'm going to vote in protest.”

Bolton is a hawkish national security adviser who served as the president's national security adviser before parting ways with Trump, but has frequently criticized the former president since leaving office. He previously said he voted for Cheney in the 2020 election.

He said in an interview that he is currently considering voting for former President Ronald Reagan.

“I originally thought I'd write about Ronald Reagan in 2020 to get this point across even more effectively, and I'll probably do that again this time,” he said.

Ms. Harris maintains a 4.2 point lead over Mr. Trump nationally, according to Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters polling average. Several key battleground states remain close, and these states are likely to ultimately determine the outcome.
