Investigations into John Bolton’s Handling of Sensitive Information
Former national security adviser John Bolton might face charges over allegations of transmitting sensitive information via a private server, according to reports. This information surfaced after federal agents searched his home in Maryland and his Washington, D.C. office on Friday morning.
Sources indicate that the questionable actions were initially detected in 2020 using specific intelligence methods. There’s supposed evidence that Bolton transferred files marked as “wife and daughter” directly from his White House desk.
Bolton served in the Trump administration for 17 months, from April 2018 until his resignation in September 2019, which he announced after Trump stated in a tweet that he had been fired.
Following Bolton’s exit, investigators began looking into these issues. There were earlier inquiries concerning his 2020 memoir and claimed secret disclosures, but the Biden administration decided to shelve this investigation for a while, officials mention.
Known for his outspoken nature, Bolton frequently criticizes his former boss in various media appearances. A senior FBI official remarked that the administration might have overlooked the harmful implications of material Bolton allegedly took.
They believed that law enforcement was being “weaponized” to halt investigations that should have proceeded. Investigators termed the evidence against Bolton as “airtight,” but it seems the FBI director, Kash Patel, was not briefed about the investigation until a month after he sought details on the case in February. Initially, he thought it related to an unrelated previous inquiry.
However, agents pressed him to recognize that this was a distinct investigation that had not been allowed to advance due to interference from the Biden administration over the past four years.
This week’s actions aimed to gather more evidence regarding the alleged misconduct. Sources claimed that agents obtained a substantial amount of evidence from Bolton’s home and collected additional materials from his D.C. office.
Though federal agents view their case against Bolton as robust, it appears the Justice Department has no intentions of pursuing charges against his family members.
