House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) believes the Trump administration’s policies are proof of “Jim Crow 2.0”, as he initially predicted.
Clyburn appeared on CNN, where he spoke about finding common ground between fellow Democrats, given the current party divisions.
“What does Dei have to do with Jackie Robinson and Medgar Evers, and what did he have to do with saying that government-sponsored events at government-sponsored facilities is no longer Greta?” he said.
This is the establishment of Jim Crow 2.0,” he continued, referring to his October statement on the Conservative Policy Agenda Project 2025.
Clyburn, the first black legislator from South Carolina to be elected to Congress almost 100 years after his predecessor, likened Project 2025 to segregation in the early 1900s.
The Trump administration has faced scrutiny for implementing some ideas from the Heritage Foundation draft, despite the former leader’s denial of being involved.
On Tuesday, the Department of Defense deleted Jackie Robinson’s page, citing politicization of his military contributions.
Clyburn advised fellow Democrats to unite against the administration, stating, “We hope we stop running around chasing shiny objects and start focusing on what this administration is doing.”
