Bonnie Tyler Recovers from Coma
Bonnie Tyler, known for her iconic song “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” has emerged from a coma one month after experiencing cardiac arrest. However, she is still reported to be “very unwell.”
On June 15, Tyler’s team shared an update on her condition. Although she’s no longer in a medically induced coma, she continues to receive treatment in a hospital in Portugal.
The statement from her team indicated, “While Bonnie has come out of the coma, she remains very unwell and is in intensive care in a hospital in Portugal. Her condition is improving, but it will take time.” Doctors are optimistic about her recovery, though the process is gradual.
As a result of her health issues, all of Tyler’s upcoming performances have been canceled, but there is hope that some scheduled for the fall might still go on.
They expressed gratitude for the support and well wishes directed to Tyler, while also requesting privacy for her family during this difficult time. “Bonnie’s family is committed to providing further updates as significant developments arise,” the statement read.
Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, first burst onto the music scene in 1976 with “Lost in France,” eventually becoming a global sensation with hits like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero.” She remained a beloved figure in Europe, participating in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013.
She previously mentioned in interviews that touring is essential for her—”I consider myself a working-class girl, and I’ve never stopped working.” Although her music is often associated with the 1980s, songs like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” still resonate today.
Tyler is married to Robert Sullivan, a former Olympic judo player. They tied the knot in July 1973 and share homes in both Wales and Portugal. Despite the challenges she faces, Tyler’s spirit and drive remain evident in her words and actions.
