Book Reveals the True Reason Caitlin Clark 'Wasn't Given a Chance' for the Olympic Team

Allegations Surrounding Caitlin Clark’s Omission from 2024 Olympic Team

A recent report concerning the 2024 US Olympic women’s basketball team indicates that officials may have conspired to keep WNBA star Caitlin Clark from joining the squad, suggesting she had “no chance” to represent the United States.

Christine Brennan, a columnist for USA TODAY, claims that a certain “power” worked collectively to exclude Clark from the Olympics.

“The decision-makers for the women’s games didn’t want Caitlin Clark on the team. It didn’t matter how well she played,” Brennan wrote. She noted that while many basketball experts improved their skills, US basketball was already demonstrating strong performance. This perspective comes from her new book, About Her Game: Caitlin Clark and the Women’s Sports Revolution.

Brennan has identified several reasons for the team’s decisions. One notable factor was that the team wasn’t actually searching for a full roster of 12 players. One position was essentially reserved for a player looking to achieve a record sixth successive Olympic appearance.

“This left only 11 spots available instead of 12. Diana Taurasi was pivotal… and, to be honest, she was somewhat injured and could only contribute modestly,” Brennan stated.

Another reason seemed to carry more weight. Brennan mentioned that Olympic officials expressed concern about upsetting Clark’s fans when it was announced she wouldn’t play for the entire game.

The committee faced backlash from Clark’s supporters for her exclusion from the team.

Initially, officials offered her a chance to compete in a 3-on-3 format, but she declined this opportunity, feeling it wasn’t a suitable fit.

Clark mentioned feeling sidelined by the Olympic team, saying, “I don’t want to be there just to observe. I appreciate being at women’s basketball games, but I want to contribute meaningfully. It’s not fulfilling to just sit on the bench while everyone else is in the game.”
