Booker yells at Grassley while Democrats leave in protest as GOP senators move forward with nominations for Bove and Pirro.

Democrats were removed from a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday after a Republican senator facilitated the appointments of former Trump Attorney Emil Bove to the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and Janine Piro to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C.

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) expressed his frustration to Chuck Grassley (R-IA) for about eight minutes before Democrats decided to leave the conference room, as noted by the New York Post. It seems Booker became quite animated after Grassley declined his request to discuss Bove’s nomination.

“You’re a good guy. You’re a decent guy. Why are you doing this?” Booker said to Grassley. “What Donald Trump is telling you is that you are making us act in a way that disregards our committee’s rules, the common decency we should uphold. Can’t we at least listen to one another?”

“This is unfair. This is wrong. This committee risks further compromising its integrity with such nominees. What exactly are you afraid of?”

The committee ultimately proceeded with the nominations of both Bove and Piro, who had previously served as county judges and hosted shows on Fox News.

Democrats have particularly scrutinized Bove’s nomination due to whistleblower claims that surfaced while he held a senior position at the DOJ early in Trump’s second term. These claims involved urging DOJ lawyers to dismiss a court order linked to the Trump administration’s controversial decision regarding an illegal immigrant.

The DOJ has initiated an ethical inquiry concerning former DOJ lawyer Elles Roubeni, who has accused Democrats of acting as “whistleblowers” against Bove.

As previously reported, Democrats have focused on allegations related to illegal immigrants, including accusations that he assaulted his wife multiple times while being involved with members of the MS-13 gang.

The decision made on Thursday allows Bove’s nomination to proceed to the full Senate for a vote. If confirmed, he will receive a lifetime appointment, governing the 3rd Circuit, which includes districts in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
