Yankees Announcer Faces Fresh Jabs from WFAN Personality
Suzyn Waldman, the familiar voice of the New York Yankees, has found herself once again in the crosshairs of a WFAN host. This time, it’s former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason and his long-time radio co-host Craig Carton stirring the pot.
The latest round of teasing came after a lighthearted chat between Waldman and Dave Sims, the new play-by-play voice for the Yankees. Starting in the 2025 season, Waldman and Sims will unite in the broadcast booth, marking a fresh chapter in their careers.
This prompted Greg Gianotti, another WFAN morning host, to speculate whether Waldman might feel a tinge of jealousy regarding Sims’ new endorsement deal. It seems an ad for Dude Wipes caught Esiason’s attention, leading him to jokingly imagine how Waldman might react.
“She could use new wipes every day, similar to Vagisil,” Esiason remarked with a chuckle. It’s tough to tell if he intended it as playful banter or something more biting, but his comment certainly sparked a reaction.
Attempts to get a statement from WFAN’s parent company, Audacy, were met with silence, and Waldman’s representatives were also unavailable for comment. Esiason’s forays into the Yankees’ broadcast booth have not been without precedent; earlier in the season, he had teased Sims for taking an extended break from work.
Carton, noted for his unflattering impressions of Waldman, often channels humor at her expense during his radio show. Although the two managed to set aside their differences for the previous Yankees season, the underlying tension appears to linger.
In more recent news, the Toronto Blue Jays triumphed over the Yankees in Game 4 of the ALDS, eliminating them from postseason play. For the first time since 2016, Toronto is moving forward to the ALCS.
