Knicks’ Potential White House Visit Discussed by Boomer Esiason
If former NFL star and current New York talk radio personality Boomer Esiason has his way, the New York Knicks could be celebrating an NBA championship at the White House.
So far, the Knicks haven’t received an official invite from President Trump. However, given Trump’s friendship with Knicks owner James Dolan and his fondness for the team, it’s likely that an invitation will come soon. There’s already some chatter about whether the Knicks will head to Washington D.C. for a White House visit.
“When is Jim Dolan going to tell his team they’re visiting my friend Donald Trump at the White House?” Esiason posed during a Tuesday morning radio session with co-host Greg Gianotti. “I can’t wait for that. It would be fantastic, especially since this year marks the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding. I think it would be wonderful to see them celebrated there. Imagine the Knicks standing alongside a president who’s a Knicks fan!”
Esiason also mentioned that he wouldn’t have an issue with the Knicks meeting New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani, who identifies as a socialist. He expressed that he believes political affiliations shouldn’t interfere with celebratory events involving politicians.
“You’re showing respect to the office…I think we can put the politics aside for this,” Esiason remarked. “I fully support the team doing what’s right. If the mayor is extending an invitation, I think it’s fine for the Knicks to visit and celebrate their championship.”
The Knicks are set to receive the keys to the city from Mayor Mamdani on Thursday, and after that, it seems likely a White House visit could come into play.
Notably, Trump was the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game, sitting beside Dolan during Game 3 of the Knicks’ matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.
While other championship teams from leagues like the NFL and MLB have visited the White House during Trump’s presidency, the NBA champions have yet to do so in either of his terms.
