Border Patrol chiefs in three sectors on the southwest border with Mexico reported daily apprehension rates above 2,600 in their latest weekly reports. The reports from these three of nine sectors on the southwest border exceed President Joe Biden’s new executive order imposing a seven-day average cap of 2,500 migrants per day.
On Tuesday, President Biden issued an executive order limiting encounters with migrants along the southwest border to about 2,500 per day, Breitbart News reported. Weekly reports from patrol chiefs in San Diego, Tucson and Del Rio indicate that more than 2,600 migrants are being apprehended per day. This average does not include the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Big Bend, El Paso, Yuma and El Centro.

Sector chiefs for San Diego, Tucson and Del Rio said in their latest weekly social media posts that 8,488, 7,500 and 2,389 migrants were apprehended, respectively, for a total of 18,377 migrants across the three sectors, or 2,625 per day.
Breitbart Texas reached out to Border Patrol officials to see what steps would be taken to close the border now that President Biden’s daily limit of 2,500 migrants has been exceeded. There was no immediate response.

Citing unofficial Border Patrol charts, Breitbart Texas reported that Border Patrol agents apprehended about 118,000 migrants during the month of May, or more than 3,800 per day. May’s arrests were the third-lowest month for migrant arrests under the Biden administration. During fiscal year 23, agents have apprehended an average of more than 6,780 migrants per day. So far this fiscal year, agents have apprehended about 6,715 migrants per day.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott criticized the president’s executive order as “a smokescreen for President Biden’s failed open borders policy.” He added, “This executive order will further the invasion of our country and allow thousands of unvetted illegal immigrants to cross our border every day. This is the exact opposite of closing the border.”
Abbott said Biden’s executive order “effectively legalizes millions of illegal immigrants already in the country and allows thousands more to illegally cross our southern border each day.”
