BOSTON — Will Borgen Out for Fifth Straight Game
Will Borgen sat out his fifth consecutive match due to an upper-body injury during the Rangers’ game against the Bruins on Friday. The 28-year-old defenseman was put on injured reserve last weekend and has missed seven of the last eight games for the team.
In his absence, Scott Morrow rejoined the Rangers roster for the fourth time this season. The rookie defenseman played on the third pairing with Matthew Robertson, while the top four pairings of Vladislav Gavrikov with Adam Fox and Carson Soucy with Braden Schneider remained unchanged.
This situation led to Urho Vaakanainen being removed from the lineup, marking the eighth time he was a healthy scratch this season. Earlier this month, Vaakanainen had missed two games due to a lower-body injury.
Head coach Mike Sullivan made some adjustments, swapping JT Miller with Will Quill in hopes of improving the team’s top-six performance.
The team captain found himself alongside Mika Zibanejad and Alexis Lafreniere on the first unit, while Quill took over a wing position with Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin.
Connor Sheary, who had participated in the first 24 games, watched from the sidelines for the second consecutive game.
Igor Shesterkin, in his 20th start this season, managed to save 19 of 21 shots, securing his 10th win. Meanwhile, with Jonathan Quick also on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury, Sullivan did not confirm whether rookie goaltender Dylan Garland would see action in Saturday’s game against the Lightning.
“We’re taking it one day at a time,” Sullivan stated.
The Rangers faced the Bruins on Friday at TD Garden. Notably, David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, Pavel Zasa, and Matej Blumel were all unavailable. It seems that Pastrnak and Zasa might be back soon, while Blumel is expected to be out for a significant period.
After Saturday’s game against Tampa, the Rangers are scheduled to have Sunday off before they clash with the Stars at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
