Hello, hello, hello and welcome to coverage of Atlético Madrid’s trip to Westphalia. The visitors are chasing their first Champions League semi-final since 2017, when their deeply annoying and more successful step-siblings, Real, triumphed 4-2 on aggregate. Since then there have been two quarter-final exits for Diego Simeone’s side, unable to regain the lofty heights of two runners-up finishes from 2014 to 2016 (ugh, Real, just let them have one).

Atlético enter with a 2-1 advantage, but Borussia Dortmund remain hopeful after a late strike from Sébastien Haller in Madrid. The bad news for tonight’s hosts? They can’t call upon Haller for another vital goal, with the forward ruled out due to an ankle injury.

The reality for both sides is that they’re the underdogs in the last eight, both trying to make up for a lack of domestic happiness this year with a European journey that could still make its way to London this June. I’ll be here to see who’s left smiling at the end of the night. Kick-off’s at 8pm BST.

important events

15 minutes: Adeyemi played the ball to Brandt on the left side of the box, who returned the ball to the center…but it was cleared and it was a corner kick.

13 minutes: Sancho gets on the edge of a long ball from Hummels and sinks the ball into the middle…but the on-loan winger is offside.

share

12 minutes: Atlético were doing a good job against Dortmund as the ball from the right was cleared by Hummels.

share

10 minutes: Adeyemi receives a penalty for handball. By the way, he was the guy who worked hard to set up Sabitzer a few minutes earlier, driving down the left flank and slipping a low ball to the central midfielder.

share

9 minutes: Atlético became more comfortable with the ball and began to swing it around for long periods of time.

share

7 minutes: Atlético won a corner and had a goal before Griezmann could put the ball into the mixer. Dortmund defended solidly.

share

5 minutes: And now Morata realizes he has space to advance and just beat the keeper… and he sinks it wide!he Also I had to score. Crazy start to this game.

Update date and time

3 minutes: Morata lost the ball and Dortmund pressed forward, and a ball from the left forced Sabitzer into the box, only to beat the keeper…until Azpilicueta started blocking to protect the goal. Sabitzer made an unnecessary first touch that cost him. He had to score!

Mats Hummels gets a prezzie or two. The 2014 World Cup winner made his 500th appearance for Dortmund in last week’s first leg, somehow ending his three-year spell at Bayern Munich midway through his career. That’s a great achievement.

A huge yellow flag is flying out, A wall of fans formed at the Westfalenstadion. Dortmund didn’t do so well in the first leg, but they’re currently doing well in this position in front of their fans. Of course Simeone is here to spoil the party.

This is the big picture. Hermoso will be the only change from Atlético’s team that played the first leg, as last match’s winner Lino is suspended. Dortmund also made a change, bringing on Brandt in place of Nmeka.

Martsen, Sabitzer, Can, Sancho, Brandt, Adeyemi, Furkrug

sub: Ozkan, Nmeka, Reus, Duranville, Wolf, Moukoko, Süle, Mayer, Lotka, Wetchen, Beinoe Gittens.

preamble

Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to our coverage of Atletico Madrid’s trip to Westphalia. The visiting team are chasing their first Champions League semi-final since 2017, when their much nastier and more successful stepbrother Real won 4-2 on aggregate. Since then, Diego Simeone’s side have been eliminated in the quarter-finals twice and have never been able to regain the heights of two runners-up finishes from 2014 to 2016 (oh Real, one more time). Please forgive me).

Atlético go into the match with a 2-1 advantage, but Borussia Dortmund remain hopeful after Sebastien Haller scored a late goal in Madrid. Any bad news for tonight’s hosts? Forward Haller is out with an ankle injury and will not be able to score another important goal.

The reality for both is that they are underdogs in the last eight and are looking to make up for this year’s lack of domestic happiness with a trip to Europe that could still arrive in London this June. Come here to see who is left smiling at the end of the night. Kick-off is 8pm (BST).
