Boston Democratic mayor says criminals should not be prosecuted for theft, gang registry should be abolished

First appearance on FOX Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has advocated for a zero-tolerance policy, pushing for the abolition of gang registration and arguing that criminal acts such as theft should not be prosecuted.

The mayor was asked, “Do you support shutting down the Boston Police Department’s gang database?”

She answered, “Yes.”

Wu was then asked whether he supported the no-charge list instituted by former Suffolk County District Attorney Rachel Rollins.

The district attorney later joined the Biden administration but resigned after an ethics investigation found Rollins committed “gross” ethical violations and an “abuse of power.”

“Do you support expanding the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office’s no-charge list and how these misdemeanors are handled? Yes/No?” Progressive Mass asked.

“Yes,” Wu replied.

Wu also pledged that as mayor he would advocate for reallocating some of the police budget to other city priorities. The mayor said he believes law enforcement should be “demilitarized.”[ed]”

Wu said police should not have the power to use tear gas, rubber bullets or attack dogs.

The Progressive Mass poll asked, “Do you believe officers’ affiliation with or sympathy with white supremacist organizations is a problem for the BPD? Yes/No. If so, what steps would you take as mayor to combat that problem?”

Wu replied, “Yes. I am a [Boston Police Department] officials involved in the attack on the Capitol on January 6th.”

She also wanted to make “use of force” personnel files available to the public, something opponents feared could potentially Putting police officers at risk.

“[W]”Contract language should comply with privacy laws, share data about officer use of force and misconduct with the public, and make disciplinary records publicly available,” she said.

Wu’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Critics have accused her of using “Nixon tactics” in the past after her administration acknowledged compiling a list of her most vocal critics and providing it to local officials, despite her views on policing, according to a July 2023 report.

The report raised concerns that Wu and his administration were trying to silence or intimidate his many critics, who have protested outside his home.

When he was first elected, Wu opened an office focused on “food justice, empowering black men, empowering LGBTQ+ people, and worker rights” in order to create a more “fair city for future generations.”

But critics have accused Wu of being less inclusive to white people, sparking numerous complaints to the state attorney general. In December, the Democratic mayor came under fire for sending out invitations to a holiday party only for non-white city council members.

“Honourable Council Members: On behalf of Mayor Michelle Wu, I cordially invite you and your guests to the Elected People of Color Holiday Party,” the email sent to everyone by mistake said.

Fifteen minutes after the email was sent, Wu’s aide, Denise Dos Santos, apologized and clarified that the invitation was only for minority City Council members, but she did not apologize for organizing a party that excluded white city leaders.

“I apologize for my last email regarding tomorrow’s holiday party,” Dos Santos wrote. “It was sent to everyone by mistake. I apologize if it caused or was perceived as offending. I’m sorry for any confusion caused.”
