“The Daily Show” host Ronny Chieng boldly asked Boston Mayor Michelle Wu if he had any ideas about how her party wouldn't be considered.
“So, what advice would you give to the Democrats who are running now on how to avoid being such a loser?” he asked Wu. “Or, how, connect with people more?”
“I really don't know what's going on because every day at this show we talk about some bulls.
A referendum on CNN and NBC News, released earlier this month, found that Democrats' popularity had fallen to a new low.

Fox News poll: Trump, Democrats roam and Republican
Only 29% of respondents to the CNN poll said they had a positive view of the party, while 27% of registered voters said they had a positive view of the Democrats in the NBC poll.
“If you're generous, and there's clearly a disconnect between the average person, the average Democrats and maybe politics. Is that so?” Qian asked Wu. “Something strange is happening. Do you feel that way?”
Wu shared these feelings while growing up as an immigrant in the country, saying that this is one of the reasons why she entered politics and “changes people's lives every day by doing their jobs” in order to “make a difference.”
Kien has once again pushed the mayor into Democrats' unpopularity and marveled at how Wu won 64% of the vote in the 2021 election, but according to a recent referendum, her party is now “incredibly unpopular.”

Woo is seeking re-election in the November election, being challenged by Josh Craft, son of New England Patriots owner Robert Craft.
“You too ran as a Democrat,” Qian told Wu. “Democrats, I don't know if you've seen the news recently — it's incredibly unpopular in this country. It's not that popular. Everyone hates everything you do. They're 10% popular.
“As a Democratic mayor, do you think most of your districts that voted for Republicans and Maga and Trump?” he asked.
WU said residents have a wide range of views, but there is a common vision among her members of “greater benefits” and investment in education and infrastructure. She also said it's important to engage with the community and “do the job.”

The protesters marched into the North End from Boston Common past city halls in Boston on Monday, February 17, 2025, to protest the Trump administration's policies.

Chieng pushed what she says on WU on Bostonians who did not support her commitment to the “sanctuary city” policy against illegal immigration.
Wu has vowed to protect immigrants from the Trump administration's deportation efforts. In her city speech last Wednesday, she told immigrants, “You belong here.”
Wu defended the stance on the “Daily Show,” saying Boston's welcoming attitude towards illegal immigration makes the city safer “for everyone.”
She argued that the Immigration Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) attacks were the false story of immigrants committing more crimes after the arrests of 370 illegal immigrants in the Boston area last week.
“We really focus on being that home for everyone and that's working. So, that topic about whether a city of this kind that is more welcome to immigrants is more dangerous is all about the false narrative that immigrants are likely to commit crimes or harm, and simply not true,” she said.
