Bowling Green Linebacker Becomes Famous for Impressive Middle Name

Father’s Unique Naming Choice for His Son

One father has taken his passion for sports to a surprising level, hoping to pass that enthusiasm on to his sons. In the case of Gideon Lampron, a national linebacker known for his prowess in the FCS, his father’s unusual choice of middle name has definitely stirred conversations.

The story unfolded after Gideon was born. While his mother wanted to name him Gideon Xavier, she dozed off after the delivery. Seizing the moment, Gideon’s father made a bold decision to name his son “ESPN.” This happened when the nurse arrived to create the birth certificate, and his father, Marty Lampron, took the opportunity to sign it with “ESPN” in all capital letters without his wife’s knowledge.

Originally from Boston, Marty had attempted to name one of his children after a sports icon before. He almost named Gideon’s brother Gabriel after the famous Celtics player, Larry Bird.

“I tried for months to convince my wife,” Marty shared. “But it didn’t work out.”

From that experience, he learned that he might need to wait until his wife, perhaps, was more out of it to choose names in the future.

As for Gideon, he seems to embrace his unique middle name wholeheartedly. “I love it,” he said, expressing pride in the creative choice. “My dad clearly had big plans for me right from the start, and I’m happy about it. Watching his kids play sports is what my dad enjoys the most.”

Gideon, who transferred from Dayton University to Bowling Green, even uses his middle name on social media—@espnlampron. His player profile at Bowling Green identifies him as Gideon ESPN Lampron, a name that’s certainly gained attention as he’s made the transition to a new program.

He played for three years in Dayton before making the switch, further enhancing his visibility in the athletic arena.
