Boxing champion Georgia O’Connor passes away at 25 after being diagnosed with cancer

Tragic Loss of Boxer Georgia O’Connor, 25

Georgia O’Connor, a 25-year-old professional boxer, has died after a battle with cancer, according to a statement from her promoter, Boxxer. They hailed her as “a true warrior, both inside and outside the ring.”

In reflecting on her life, the promoter expressed their condolences: “Georgia was loved, respected, and admired by her friends here at Boxxer. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.”

Earlier this year, O’Connor shared the news of her cancer diagnosis on Instagram. She mentioned enduring significant pain for weeks before receiving a proper diagnosis.

In her post, she described the ordeal: “For the 17 weeks since the start of October, I’ve been in constant pain, moving back and forth between Durham and Newcastle RVI A&E, knowing something was seriously wrong.” O’Connor also noted her awareness of the risks associated with cancer, saying she felt the illness from the beginning.

Despite her challenges, she had moments of joy. Earlier in February, O’Connor revealed a personal story that was both heartbreaking and uplifting: she had been pregnant but also experienced a miscarriage and was later diagnosed with “incurable” cancer. Yet, she still expressed an optimistic outlook, stating, “I feel that I am at the top of the world!”

She celebrated her marriage on May 9th, reflecting a sense of resilience amid her struggles.

O’Connor maintained an impressive boxing record, having gone professional in 2021 after a successful amateur career that included medals at the Youth World Championships in 2017 and 2018. Born in Durham, England, her determination in the ring was notable, especially considering her health battles with ulcerative colitis and primary sclerotic cholangitis.
