Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. has revealed that his son, DeAndre, committed suicide last Saturday. Instagram Posts.
Jones said she was grateful to be able to spend Friday night with her son.
“Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his own life on Saturday,” the 55-year-old boxer’s post began. “I am so grateful that God allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of my son’s life with my family. I know many people are going through hardship right now, but no life is worth taking. Life is a God-given gift and it should be God who takes it.”

Jones asked people to respect the family’s privacy while they grieve.
“Please respect our privacy as my family and I navigate this loss. Thank you for your love and support,” the post concluded.

DeAndre was one of three children born to Jones and his wife.
Jones is one of the greatest boxers in the history of the ring, with a career record of 66 wins and 10 losses, including 47 knockouts.

Jones made his name as a former middleweight champion, but also won the WBA heavyweight title in 2003, becoming the first dual-division champion in WBA history.
Jones is also known for being the undisputed light heavyweight champion, having held the WBA, WBC and IBF light heavyweight title belts.
In 2020, Jones returned to the boxing ring in an exhibition bout against Mike Tyson, which ultimately ended in a draw after fighting all eight rounds on the card.

In 2023, Jones faced Anthony Pettis in the latter’s hometown of Milwaukee, where Pettis defeated Jones by majority decision.
