“Hello everyone. I would like to briefly address my retirement from boxing,” Fury said. “It was so much fun. I loved every minute of it. And that's it. Dick Turpin was wearing a mask. God bless you all. See you on the other side.”

It's unclear why Fury mentioned Turpin. This Englishman was an 18th century highway robber and horse thief.

“The Gypsy King” suffered back-to-back losses against Usyk. He lost by split decision on May 18th and by unanimous decision on December 21st. Both matches took place in Saudi Arabia. Fury lost multiple heavyweight championships in his first loss to Usyk.

Fury's last win was a split decision over Francis Ngannou.

If this is what Fury truly wants, he will retire with a record of 34-2-1 and 24 KOs. Usyk's loss was the only stain on his record. The draw was against Deontay Wilder in 2018.

He previously announced his retirement ahead of his 34th birthday in August 2022, returning to the ring two months later.

Frank Warren, a boxing promoter who worked with Fury, told the BBC that he did not speak to Fury before his retirement.

Warren said on BBC radio: “If that's what he wants to do, that's great. He's done everything he can. He's probably the best British heavyweight of his generation.” “He's a two-time world champion and he had two close fights with Usyk. He's got plenty of money, he's got some smarts, he's got a nice family.”

Boxing fans were hopeful that Fury would finally be able to take on Anthony Joshua in a battle between two of Britain's best fighters of this generation. But that won't happen, at least for now.
