A 12-year-old boy died after suffering a “medical-related incident” at a California water park on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities and local fire officials responded to Wild Rivers Waterpark in Irvine, California, on Saturday afternoon, according to the Irvine Police Department.
Police said they were dispatched to a call about a child needing medical assistance.
Paramedics rushed the child to hospital, where he later died, police said.
A Wildwater spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that a 12-year-old boy “experienced a non-water related medical incident” at the park.
“We are very sad to announce an incident occurred today at Wild Rivers, where a 12-year-old boy experienced a non-water related medical incident outside of our pool,” they said.
“Despite the swift response of our teams and emergency services, he sadly later passed away in hospital,” they said. “Our thoughts go out to the boy’s family and loved ones at this difficult time and we ask that everyone keep them in their thoughts and prayers.”
The Irvine Police Department declined to provide additional information about the incident.
Billed as California’s best water park, it features 20 water slides and attractions ranging from thrill rides and wave pools to lazy rivers.
Orange County’s Wild Rivers Waterpark first opened in July 1986 and reopened in 2022 after undergoing expansion.
