Boy, 14, in custody in wild NYC subway shooting that killed bystander: cops

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder in a violent gang-related subway shooting in the Bronx last month that left an innocent bystander dead and five others injured, police said.

The boy, who was injured in the riot explosion and has been in custody ever since, was also charged Thursday with four counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon, police said.

Police said the boy was wounded in the leg during the shootout that claimed the life of Obed Beltrán Sanchez, 35, on Feb. 12 at the Mount Eden subway station around 4:40 p.m.

Police say he is the second person arrested in connection with the subway violence, joining 16-year-old gangbanger Rangel Jones, who was arrested days after the shooting, and another suspect still at large. He added that it was inside.
