Matthew Lawrence prefers to keep details about his 2022 divorce from Cheryl Burke under wraps. It’s been a highly publicized split, and, to be honest, maybe it’s just something he’d rather not dwell on.

The 45-year-old actor shared during a recent interview that entering an industry where personal lives are so exposed can be challenging. “Your private life becomes public,” he said, “and I don’t think that’s really enjoyable for anyone, you know?”

For Lawrence, the fallout from this is especially significant. “When you can’t control the narrative,” he explained, “you just have to say, ‘I need to move on and live the life I want.’ The people in my life know what’s true and what’s not.”

He emphasized the importance of developing resilience in these situations: “You have to get a thick skin and keep going.”

Lawrence first crossed paths with Burke in 2006 while his brother Joey was competing on “Dancing with the Stars.” Their romance, which lasted two years initially, rekindled in 2017, leading to their engagement in 2018 and marriage a year later.

Burke filed for divorce in February 2022. Recently, she shed light on the factors that contributed to their breakup.

Burke also highlighted her journey towards self-forgiveness and intuition, stating, “It’s been a big step for me.” Meanwhile, Lawrence mentioned how this experience “tested” him and led to significant personal growth. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow,” he said in a recent interview.

Today, Burke finds herself single, while Lawrence is dating TLC’s Chili. Burke, reflecting on her path post-divorce, remarked on the emotional clarity she’s gained and how self-love has played a pivotal role.
