Boy shot outside NYC subway station by Citi Bike-riding gang in latest city youth violence: cops

Authorities said a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed late Sunday just outside a Bronx subway station by a group of four assailants who fled on a Citi Bike.

Police said the boy was shot in the left leg around 8:20 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Simpson Street in Longwood, near the stairs leading to the elevated Simpson Street No. 2 and No. 5 subway station.

He was taken to Lincoln Medical Center in stable condition, authorities said.

Police said the boy told officers he was standing or walking at the intersection when he heard gunshots.

It is unclear if he was the target of the shooting, and a motive remains under investigation.

Police said two of the four suspects, believed to be teenagers, fled the scene on Citi Bikes.

No arrests had been made by late Monday morning.

Police said the violent incident happened just over a week after two boys, ages 12 and 13, were shot and wounded inside a Bronx McDonald’s restaurant on White Plains Road near Mace Avenue.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney said last week that the shooting occurred after the victims had been arguing with two girls and that nine boys rushed to their aid.

It was not immediately clear if the boy was the target of Sunday night’s shooting. Citizen

Police said one of the gunmen opened fire, striking the older boy in the thigh and the younger victim in the left leg and back.

Police last week released surveillance camera footage of a masked gunman on the run.
