Brady Campaign Responds to ATF Regulation Repeal
The Brady campaign, previously known as Handgun Control, has reacted to the repeal of the Biden-era ATF regulation, arguing that it caters to the desires of the gun industry.
They noted that this repeal could lead to less secure conditions.
Brady’s President, Chris Brown, stated:
In the last four years, we’ve seen significant decreases in gun crime and homicides, thanks to robust investments in violence prevention and strong, evidence-based gun policies. The current rollbacks by President Trump and his administration put our communities at risk in ways that are unprecedented among developed nations.
Interestingly, Brown did not address the FBI’s updated violent crime statistics for 2022, which indicate a 4.5% increase in violent crimes during that year under the Biden-Harris administration.
On June 11, 2024, President Joe Biden asserted, perhaps inaccurately, that his and Harris’ policies have led to a reduction in crime.
Before I took office, the murder rate saw the highest increase in history. Last year, we experienced the largest drop in homicides on record. (Applause) Crime rates, including murder, rape, and aggravated assault, fell sharply, with some of the lowest rates in nearly half a century.
On June 24, 2024, Breitbart News conducted a fact-check on an FBI report stating a decrease in crime in 2022, pointing out that the report lacked data from numerous police precincts that do not submit crime statistics.
Other media outlets have similarly criticized the FBI’s report, leading the agency to amend its information months later.
Brown did not reference this oversight, nor did he clarify how repealing ATF regulations on stabilizer braces, which are intended as a retirement tool for veterans, might endanger Americans.
