The Memphis Grizzlies announced on social media that Brandon Clark, aged 29, has died.

The team shared the news via Instagram, although they haven’t revealed the cause of his death. However, a source from the Los Angeles Police Department indicated he may have died from a drug overdose on Monday, as reported by ABC News. Drugs were discovered at the scene, and there were no indications of foul play. Law enforcement noted drug paraphernalia was found in his home and are treating the situation as a possible drug overdose, according to NBC4 Los Angeles. Clark began his NBA journey in 2019.

In a heartfelt message, the team expressed their sorrow: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke.” They further emphasized his role as an exceptional teammate and highlighted his impact on both the organization and the Memphis community.

The team also extended condolences to Clark’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Beginning his career in the NBA in 2019, Clark was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder and subsequently traded to Memphis. He had an impressive rookie season, landing a spot on the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team.

His agent, from Priority Sports, reflected on his kind spirit and loving nature, stating, “He was much loved by all of us here and everyone whose lives he touched.” They noted that he was always the first to support his friends and family, describing him as a uniquely joyous presence.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver expressed admiration for Clark’s talent and dedication to the sport. In a statement, Silver remarked on Clark being a beloved teammate and leader, extending condolences to those who loved him.

Clark’s college basketball career included two seasons with the San Jose State Spartans prior to his transfer to Gonzaga, where he achieved significant recognition.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be disclosed.
