The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office has permitted the release of Brandon Clark’s body to his family. The official website noted that his body was “ready for release,” but the exact cause and manner of death are still pending further investigation.
Reports indicate that Clark’s death is possibly linked to an overdose. The 29-year-old was pronounced dead by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics after they responded to a 911 call at a residence in the San Fernando Valley shortly after 5 p.m. local time.
This event follows his April 1 arrest in Arkansas, where he faced charges related to trafficking a controlled substance, possession, fleeing from law enforcement, and improper passing. The authorities reportedly discovered 235.6 grams of kratom in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Clark was stopped for allegedly speeding, reportedly exceeding 160 mph while passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone. Officers found the kratom inside a blue duffel bag on the passenger seat of the Corvette he was driving.
Moreover, NBC4 in Los Angeles reported that drug paraphernalia was discovered at the location where Clark’s body was found.
In a statement, the Grizzlies expressed their sorrow: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clark. He was a remarkable teammate and an even better person. His impact on our organization and the Memphis community will always be remembered. Our deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones during this challenging time.”
Clark was the 21st pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and had spent all seven years of his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies. Unfortunately, he only played two games this season due to knee and calf injuries.
