Brandon Graham considering a return to the Eagles, according to reports

The Philadelphia Eagles recently faced a setback as Za’Darius Smith announced his unexpected retirement following their game against the New York Giants. This news has made the defense seem a bit more vulnerable.

As they prepare for their matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, there are reports suggesting that Brandon Graham might return to action, potentially bolstering the defense.

Graham, who is 37 years old, had previously retired after the Eagles’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. It’s noteworthy that he holds the record for the longest tenure with the Eagles, having played 15 seasons with the team. Should both parties reach an agreement, he could step onto the field for a 16th season.

ESPN has indicated that Graham is “strongly considering” a comeback. He was drafted by the Eagles out of Michigan State as a first-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Initially, he didn’t start, and it took quite a few seasons for him to become a reliable full-time pass rusher.

Throughout his career, Graham earned just one Pro Bowl selection, which came in 2020 when he racked up eight sacks. Unfortunately, in the second week of the 2021 season, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon, sidelining him for the remainder of that year. However, he made a strong return in 2022, participating in all 17 games and achieving a career-high of 11 sacks.

In total, he concluded his career with 76.5 sacks and 487 tackles, contributing to two Super Bowl-winning teams during his time in Philadelphia.

Following Smith’s retirement, the Eagles are looking for someone to energize their defense, and Graham’s return could be just what they need.

The starting linebacking squad consists of Azeez Ojulari, Zach Baun, Nakobe Dean, and Jayrix Hunt, while the second unit includes Josh Uche, Jihad Campbell, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., and Patrick Johnson.
