Brandon Nimmo doesn’t care who gets the credit.
The Mets recorded their sixth straight win with a 14-2 victory over the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Monday, but some noticed that the streak coincided with the first pitch of a beloved McDonald’s character.
Following the team’s recent win, SNY reporter Steve Gelbs asked Nimmo, who threw the first pitch at Citi Field before the Mets’ 10-4 win over the Marlins on Wednesday, how he assessed the team’s recent success.
“Whatever it is, keep going,” the outfielder told Gelbs.
The Mets’ offense has been in great form since Grimas took the mound, and part of that is down to the return of Nimmo, who manager Carlos Mendoza said had been “out of form.”
“He’s off,” Mendoza said before last Friday’s game. Series opener against the San Diego Padres“He’s going through a period here that hasn’t been easy for him.”
But in the team’s past four games, the seventh-year veteran is 10-for-17 at-bats with two extra-base hits and seven RBIs.
Nimmo was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in Monday night’s win, and his 22 hits were the team’s most in five years.
Francisco Lindor had a season-high four hits, going 4-for-4 with three singles, one double, two RBIs and three runs scored.
“it’s been [Martinez] “We haven’t had a good game the last few days, but it was good to see the other guys play,” Mendoza said. “We knew with this offense we could put the game together. Obviously today was a special game, but we have really good hitters from No. 1 through No. 9.”
Pete Alonso went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and DJ Stewart smashed a three-run homer to left field, his first since April 30.
The Mets, currently at 34-37, continue their series against the Rangers on Tuesday night.
