Brandon Nimmo of the Mets facing difficulties as strikeouts increase: 'Not great'

Brandon Nimmo Faces Struggles at the Plate

Brandon Nimmo had a tough couple of days.

In a recent 3-2 loss to the Guardians, he went hitless twice.

This marked the first time he’s struck out six times consecutively in a season.

After the game, the usually dependable left fielder was asked about his performance.

“It’s not great,” Nimmo admitted.

“It’s part of baseball. You just have to push through,” he added. “There’s no way around it.”

The team had an extended stretch of strikeouts, winning 11 games in a row prior. It’s worth noting that Nimmo had been struck out at least once in 16 of the last 17 games.

The Mets’ offense overall faced challenges, managing only four hits against Cleveland.

Nimmo’s struggles were especially noticeable; he let Juan Soto down with two key strikeouts during a match that contributed to the team’s seventh consecutive defeat.

His first strikeout occurred early on when Cleveland starter Logan Allen dispatched him in just four pitches, catching him with a 92.7 mph fastball.

Later, in the fifth inning, after swinging at a couple of pitches, he struck out again, looking at the final pitch.

Manager Carlos Mendoza commented after the game, noting, “[Nimmo’s] dealing with fastballs – they’re really targeting him well.”

In terms of consistency, Nimmo has been a core player for the Mets over the last few seasons, missing fewer than 11 games each of the past three years and just four so far in 2025.

At 32 years old, he has a reputation for dependability. Mendoza described him as “one of the most consistent guys in the lineup.”

However, even the most reliable players go through slumps, where hitting becomes a challenge.

That’s where Nimmo finds himself right now, though he remains optimistic. “We’re going to break through,” he stated confidently.

“Things aren’t as bleak as they seem. You only need one good hit to turn things around… I have faith in this lineup and this team,” he expressed.
