Charli XCX has won five BRIT awards, including Album of the Year, the fantastic album Brat in green shades that defines summer.
At a ceremony at the O2 Arena in London, she was also awarded the Dance Act with one of five genre awards, the British Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for Dues (featuring Billie Eilish). Earlier this week, she was named Songwriter of the Year.
The victory won the singer's year of overseeing the era. The singer is deliberately calming in sound and appearance, creating an entire cultural phenomenon, declared “summer” and “blatt”. It was defined vaguely – Charli asserted that the seemingly unequipped Kamala Harris is actually a gala, but centers around a horrifying, dirty life that has not been attacked and bothered cool.
Brat has broken through the UK charts and spent 38 weeks in the top 20, and was highly praised for its range. Between the clubbangers there was a thoughtful, romantic and emotionally raw track with naked Charli's unsettling concern about fame and potential motherhood. He also succeeded in the US, reaching number 3 and won three Grammy Awards.
She thanked some of the dance music heroes – perhaps becoming Autechre's first mention at the Britt Awards. [as] Despite their claims they are, they are voluntary. “When she won this year's album, she said: “I've always felt like an outsider… especially in the UK music industry. So I feel really happy to be recognized on this album when I'm not making any sacrifices,” she told fellow artists: “There's no need to compromise on your vision.”
Bratt's chief architect of dance pop sound, Ag Cook, won the Producer of the Year Britt Award. He also released a solo album entitled Britpop during the award qualifying period.
Charli – real name Charlotte Aitchison, 32 – first released music in 2008, but these were her first British awards, following four previous nominations. Ray, who set a record with six of them last year, is the only artist who has won more British people in a year.
Another act added to the 2024 victory was the final dinner party. The gorgeous Five Piece won the Rising Star Award last year, and now has the best new artist. Playing a vast style of classic rock and orthop, their debut album to Ecstasy Prelude reached number one in February 2024 and was considered one of the UK's best live acts.
Bassist Georgia Davis said, “It wouldn't be a band without an incredible independent venue in the UK. They are the lifebood of the industry, and they're dying.” She called on arena operators to financially support the grassroots venue, telling the artist who plays the latter, “Because it's the best art.”
However, the final dinner party to lose in the UK group category was defeated by a huge killing underdog. I also defeated Jazz Quintet Ezra Collective, Coldplay, The Cure, and Bring Me The Horizon.
Playing a driving instrumental influenced by Fella Kuti, hip-hop, funk and spiritual jazz is a major light in London's recently revived jazz scene. Like the final dinner party, their live shows were highly acclaimed, and in November became the first British jazz act to play London's 12,500-capacity Wembley Arena. They were also the first jazz group to win the Britt Award and the first jazz act to win the Mercury Award in 2023.
After winning the award, bandleader Femi Koreoso pleaded for support for youth clubs and music education, saying, “Many of the problems facing the UK's bigger society don't know how to fix them, but the solution likes to give young people a trumpet, saxophone.
In the category of the commonly voted genre, Samfender won his second Rock/Alternative Act Award. He reached a week this week with a fast-selling vinyl album by British artists of the century, the biggest opening week for British artists since 2022 Harry Style.
Fender, introduced to Wagash by host Jack Whitehall as “a man who puts a more smile on Geordy's face than a Turkish dentist,” also performed the title track for his new album.
Former Little Mix member Jade hit Charli XCX as the best pop act and successfully made a solo career with the hit single Angel of My Dreams. She adds three wins in Little Mix, including 2021, when it became the first woman act to win the British group. She also defeated Dua Lipa.
He has won three British people in the past and may remain commercial heavyweight, but Stormzy was a surprise winner in the hip-hop/grime/rap category. Central Cee is a favorite and has become the country's most globally popular rapper in recent years (but like Fender, his recent No. 1 album Cange Rush Greatness is not eligible until next year's Brit).
Not only did he quote the biblical poem sal and say that he injured the cornea playing padel, but Stormsey registered Central Sea in his acceptance speech. While appreciating the victory, he said, “I don't fully believe that this award should not be voted for fans. Cench was the rap artist of the year.”
The general vote was between mid-January and mid-February. This means that Stormzy's recent protests in McDonald's campaign had no effect on his votes.
This year's Rising Star Award was awarded to singer-songwriter Miles Smith in December. He was nominated for three awards, including the Song of the Year's blockbuster Stargaze.
The award-winning working-class Luton musician told the British government:
“We have to protect the foundations that make it,” he added. Like at the last dinner party, he appealed to arena operators to support the UK's grassroots venues, asking the music industry:
It was a shared sentiment by Chapel Lawn, who called for artists to “not be pressured to make music based on trends.” The American pop singer-songwriter also won the International Artist Award, dedicated to “trans artists, drag queens, fashion students, sex workers, and cinead o'Connor.”
Ireland's Rockers Fontaines DC won the International Group, the second victory in that category.
Presented by Diana Ross and Millie Bobby Brown, Sabrina Carpenter won the Revitalized Global Success Award a year after having three UK No. 1 singles and a no. 1 album. She thanked her British fans, saying, “In a country where you mainly drink tea, you sip shit from espresso… Cheerio!”
Carpenter has opened a live show on Britannia Rule stock! The dancer is dressed as a guard at Buckingham Palace and gets caught up in a chart-top espresso performance, then a test of the fork, and Bedchem's grumpy performance. The show also featured London singer Lola Young, Jade, who performed with London youth group Kinetica Broco and two-time British winner Joluja Smith, British singer Laura Young, American singer Teddy Swims and Ezra Collective.
Whitehall, who previously hosted the show between 2018 and 2021, has returned with a hail of good-natured jibes targeting Simon Cowell, KSI, Coldplay (“Nickelback of Public Schools”), as well as the previous day's “Klinge” Zelenski Trump meeting. He rang the boundaries of good taste in one comment about Jade's live performance, saying, “I really thought Diddy did that for the White Party theme,” and later referred to adult toys and adult film actors. But he also led the heartfelt head of the Memorial Segment to Liam Payne, calling him “an incredibly kind soul.”
Apart from the genre categories published, the British are voted by 1,338 strong British academies, home to musicians and industry and media figures.
