Brave Pennsylvania hero pulls neighbors from burning building in Minersville: video

A Pennsylvania man is being called a hero after bravely pulling two people from a burning building in Minersville on Sunday.

Minersville Fire Rescue responded to a three-alarm fire in the 600 block of North Second Street at about 12:44 p.m., and authorities said the fire had destroyed at least four homes, according to The Morning Call. Reported.

According to Storyful, eyewitness Janine Hughes said neighbor Oscar Rivera “risked his life to save a woman and an elderly man from a burning building while their young children stood on the porch and watched.” he said.

Hughes came across the scene on his way home and filmed the rescue. Her video shows thick black smoke billowing from the home as Rivera pulls the man out of the attic window.

A woman can be seen on the roof of the house next door.

“Grab him by his pants!” Hughes can be heard yelling at Rivera as he struggles to pull the elderly man from the burning building.

Resident Raul Ramirez was pulled to safety and taken by plane to LVH Cedar Crest, his family told The Morning Call. His condition is unknown.

Rivera, 48, told The Morning Call that he was playing with his children in the backyard when his wife frantically called to him. Around 12:45 p.m., she heard a loud bang and saw the house across the street on fire.

On the roof of the house, a woman tried to pull a man out of an attic window and called for help as smoke billowed from the house.

Rivera and his neighbors sprung into action. He told The Morning Call that he used a ladder to climb onto the roof of the burning house and then used the eaves of a neighbor’s house to hoist himself up to the third floor.

“The woman was unable to get him out,” Rivera said. “The smoke came out so fast that I moved her aside and grabbed the man’s hand.”

Burning insulation fell onto the man’s back, and Rivera pulled him out the window and to safety on a ledge about 20 feet above the sidewalk, The Morning Call reported.
