Braves Triumph in High-Scoring Match Against Reds
This past Thursday night, the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds engaged in a thrilling showdown that saw a total of 16 runs scored over the course of eight innings. The Braves ultimately clinched a tight 12-11 victory at Great American Ballpark.
As the teams headed into the eighth inning locked in a 3-3 tie, the Braves unleashed a flurry of offense, starting with three consecutive infield hits. They went on to score a remarkable eight runs without hitting a single home run, which is kind of surprising, don’t you think?
In contrast, the Reds found themselves trailing 11-3 at the bottom of the eighth. However, they responded with an impressive rally; the first eight batters reached base and included two three-run homers. One notable play came from Kebrian Hayes, who hit his first home run as a Red, while Spencer Steer tied the game with a three-run shot of his own. All of this happened before the team recorded their first out in that inning.
The game included a total of seven pitchers, 25 batters, and 16 hits shared between the Braves and Reds. Remarkably, this marked the third instance where both teams registered more than eight runs in the same inning, as noted by the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Braves managed to seal the win in extra innings. In the 10th inning, Marcel Ozuna contributed a sacrifice fly, pushing the Braves ahead 12-11. Closer Raisel Iglesias finished the game with a flawless bottom of the 10th, earning his 13th save of the season.
This game was the opener in a three-game series between the Braves and Reds, with the next matchup scheduled for Friday at 12:40 PM ET. It’s shaping up to be an exciting series ahead!
