Brian Snitker Transitions to Advisory Role with Braves

The Atlanta Braves have announced that Brian Snitker, their manager, will be transitioning to an advisory role within the team. This change takes effect on Wednesday.

At 69 years old, Snitker recently completed what was essentially his ninth full season with the Braves, marking his 49th year with the organization. The team plans to honor Snitker by inducting him into the Braves Hall of Fame prior to games next season.

During his time as manager, Snitker led the Braves to their fourth World Series title, which they won against the Houston Astros in 2021. Over his tenure, he accumulated 811 career wins, clinched six National League East titles, and made seven postseason appearances in ten seasons.

Originally appointed as interim manager in May 2016, Snitker was officially named full-time manager at the end of that season. His career managerial record stands at 811-668, placing him behind only Bobby Cox and Frank Cerry in terms of victories in franchise history.

Before becoming the Braves’ manager, Snitker joined the organization back in 1977 as an undrafted free agent and spent a substantial 20 years in the minor leagues, finishing with a record of 1,301-1,309. Notably, he received the Manager of the Year award in both 1999 and 2000 while at Single A Myrtle Beach and earned the National League Manager of the Year title in 2018, being a finalist for that award four times throughout his career.

This past season, the Braves finished fourth in the National League East with a record of 76-86, which marked the first time Snitker missed the playoffs since 2017. As it stands, the Braves are one of eight teams in search of a new manager for the upcoming season.
