Most preseason MLB predictions for 2025 have placed the Atlanta Braves within the top five teams. Analysts often highlighted the team’s impressive roster heading into the season.
However, the Braves’ performance so far this season has left much to be desired. They recently fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks, extending their losing streak to three games.
In a game on Thursday, the Braves initially led 6-0, but the Diamondbacks staged a comeback, scoring seven runs in the ninth inning to secure an 11-10 win. This loss marked Atlanta’s fourth consecutive defeat.
Currently, Atlanta has lost 11 of their last 14 games. Relief pitcher Scott Bruwett struggled, allowing five runs, four of which came during the crucial final innings. Raisel Iglesias also took the loss after giving up three runs in the ninth, while Kendall Graveman earned the victory for Arizona.
Tom Gravin, a Braves analyst and Hall of Famer, expressed concern about the team’s current state, remarking, “If you were looking for the bottom of the rock, this might be that.” His comment reflects the gravity of Atlanta’s situation.
Despite having key figures like pitcher Max Fried and prominent players from previous seasons, many in the core group have underperformed. This is notable, especially as they were expected to build on past successes.
Most fans were hoping to see a resurgence from 2023 MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. He recently returned from a knee injury and seems to be finding his rhythm again, hitting .333 with four home runs in just 12 games.
Brian Snitker, who has been with the Braves organization for nearly fifty years, is facing scrutiny this year. His management decisions are being closely examined, especially since his contract ends after the 2025 season, and he hasn’t indicated whether retirement is on the horizon.
This weekend, the Braves will head across the country to begin a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants.
