Brawl breaks out outside Kips Bay bar, resulting in three people being slashed

Police reported that one individual was taken into custody after three men were attacked outside a bar in Manhattan.

The incident occurred around 3:30 AM after the bar, Surry’s, closed. This location is on Lexington Avenue near East 29th Street in Kip Bay.

Authorities said the victims were confronted by a group of men inquiring if they had any drugs.

During this encounter, one of the attackers brandished a pocket knife, leading to the slashing of the three men involved.

According to officers, a woman in her thirties suffered an abdominal injury, a 45-year-old man was cut in the shoulder, and a 46-year-old man was wounded in the neck. All were transported to Bellevue Hospital and are reportedly stable.

A 20-year-old named Arlo Willner was arrested, facing charges that include three counts of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Law enforcement noted he has no previous arrests.

Matthew Adams, a 49-year-old tattoo artist with 26 years of experience in the area, expressed concern over the prevalence of weapons. He remarked, “It’s a shame people walk around with knives. He already has a stupid mentality. He’s carrying a knife. He’s looking for a fight.”

Adams indicated that the neighborhood is generally safe but acknowledged the unpredictability of such incidents. “But I’m a New Yorker,” he reflected. “It can happen anywhere. It’s a shame that it happened here, especially with blood on the nice neighbor’s sidewalk.”

Rachel Royer, 50, who works in security and has resided in the area for a decade, described her surprise at the event. “I absolutely walked up and down the street at 2 AM and felt completely safe,” she noted, adding, “I might choose not to do that now.”
