Germany has updated its US travel advisories, emphasizing that possessing visas or exemptions does not guarantee entry after several German citizens were detained at the border.
According to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Advisory, the country warns that travel authorization (ESTA) or US visa systems do not guarantee entry, as the US border control makes the final decision.
We recommend bringing proof of return travel when entering the US, the office advises.
The office highlights that a criminal conviction, false information about the individual’s purpose of stay, or “slightly overstaying a visa” can lead to arrest, detention, or deportation .
This comes as Germany investigates the case of three citizens who were denied entry and detained when attempting to enter the US.
Earlier, there was a serious incident involving German citizens entering the US, according to local media .
Most tourists in European countries can generally travel to the US for up to 90 days. However, German citizens were detained separately at the San Diego-Tijuana border, denied entry and transferred to a detention center .
This change and detention comes amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration at the country’s southern border and the implementation of its deportation plan.
President Trump has campaigned to stop illegal immigration, but has targeted long-standing programs that primarily provide legal ways for immigrants and travelers to enter the United States.
