President Trump reported that talks to end the war between Russia and Ukraine are progressing well, following a productive call with Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelensky.
The call with Zelensky lasted around an hour and focused on aligning Ukraine and Russia’s positions for a potential ceasefire agreement, as Trump stated on his social media site Truth Social.
The call came a day after Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We’re on a very good pace,” Trump said, adding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and national security adviser Mike Waltz will be involved.
Following Trump’s call with Putin, he backed a limited ceasefire in which Russia and Ukraine halt attacks on energy facilities and infrastructure.
Putin said he would direct his military headquarters to implement the plan immediately, but Ukraine reported hundreds of attacks nationwide with Russian drones.
Zelensky spoke ahead of his call with Trump, describing Putin’s statement as “very conflicted with reality.”
