The Jets scored a season-high 27 points after going 28 straight minutes without a first down.
What has changed?
Breece Hall is on the move.
After the Jets managed to get five consecutive possessions without moving the sticks to start Sunday's game, Hall ended up with a first down on a 6-yard run after a two-minute warning, followed immediately by a 29-yard catch-and-back. I followed up with. Run for a touchdown and breathe life into a dead offense.
Hall added a second touchdown in the third quarter to give the Jets the lead, but it wasn't enough and they lost 28-27 to the Colts.
“It's fun to watch him because you have a feeling that if you make a successful block, you're going to send him into the end zone,” receiver Garrett Wilson said. “It's really that simple with him. It was great to see him give us that spark that we needed.”
The Jets trailed 13-7 at the half, but Javon Kinlaw's fumble recovery led to Hall's 18-yard touchdown run for a 14-13 lead. The difference between his two scores was just 2 minutes and 12 seconds of game time.
“[The Colts] I had a pretty big lead so I tried to recover,” Hall said. “The offensive line has to do their part in the first half, so they don't even have a chance to come back in the second half.”
Hall was responsible for missing the first of five consecutive three-and-outs.
The Jets were booed by the home crowd before their three punts in the first quarter.
“I mixed up the play and ran into the right guard,” Hall said. “That was kind of a drive killer.”
Hall more than made up for his early mistakes with a team-high 121 yards from scrimmage on 23 touches, including seven receptions.
He palmed the ball as he dove towards the front pylon and stayed within bounds on a crazy athletic play at the end of a touchdown scamper.
“He's one of them,” Wilson said. “It's just a matter of getting together on Sunday. It always seems like that for him. He's doing his part to keep it together.”
But the Jets mysteriously didn't give Hall a touch on a fourth-and-1 at their own 39-yard line, instead opting for a tricky attack on running-bound tight end Tyler Conklin with a snap under center. .
The turnover gave the Colts a field goal and a 13-0 lead.
“We knew we were going to shoot ourselves in the foot,” Hall said. “We just said, 'Okay, let's go.' We were already digging a hole. Let's dig it out.”
But all was in vain when, instead of scoring the victory-clinching touchdown, the Jets had to settle for a late field goal at the end of a 13-play drive to take a 27-22 lead. I did.
On the final set down, Hall was stopped for no gain on first down and went up two yards short on a third-and-10 reception.
“It's just frustrating when you make big plays and don't win, so it's OK,” Hall said.
