Breece Hall's touchdown in the fourth quarter leads the Jets to a second consecutive victory against the Browns.

Jets Outlast Browns for Victory in Rainy Showdown

The Jets faced a tough outing against one of the NFL’s top defenses, but a spark from Breece Hall changed everything. Hall’s remarkable 42-yard touchdown catch and run helped the Jets secure a 27-20 win at MetLife Stadium, marking their second consecutive victory after a dismal start to the season with seven losses.

Hall’s standout performance in the fourth quarter, accumulating 83 yards on 21 carries, put the Jets ahead 24-17 after the teams were tied 17-17 at halftime. Interestingly, both of the Jets’ first-half touchdowns came from returns.

As the Browns attempted to respond, the Jets’ Will McDonald IV recorded his first career sack, helping to halt Cleveland’s momentum. Following that, Nick Folk extended the lead with a 37-yard field goal, pushing the Jets ahead by ten points.

Cleveland did score again with a field goal from Andre Schmidt, bringing them within a touchdown with just under three minutes left in the game. However, two crucial penalties against the Browns allowed the Jets to run down the clock effectively. It started with a defensive hold on a third down, followed by a neutral-zone violation that seemed unnecessary.

Justin Fields, who wasn’t named the starter until shortly before the game began, completed 6 of 11 passes for only 54 yards, including that 42-yard touchdown to Hall. He missed a significant part of the second half after receiving news that Garrett Wilson had limped off with a knee injury—this was particularly notable since it was Wilson’s return after sitting out two games with the same issue.

In fact, Wilson, who had a quiet game, didn’t record a catch, marking the first time that’s happened in his career.

Meanwhile, cornerback Azaleai Thomas, who stepped in for Sauce Gardner, also went down with a head injury after a tough collision while tackling the Browns’ Cedric Tillman.

Despite a somewhat boring first half filled with punts, the Jets’ late-game efforts stood out. The Browns initially took the lead with a touchdown pass from Dillon Gabriel to tight end David Njoku, but the Jets quickly turned things around.

Kene Nwanwu answered back with a stunning 99-yard kickoff return, leveling the score before Isaiah Williams found the end zone on a 74-yard punt return, giving the Jets a brief 14-7 lead.

Gabriel then connected with Jerry Jeudy for a 22-yard touchdown, tying the game at 14-14 before the Jets managed to regain the lead with a 26-yard field goal, putting them ahead 17-14 in the second quarter.

The Browns later tied the score again with another field goal, and the Jets went into halftime to a chorus of boos.
