And it’s interesting because many key figures are gearing up with legal teams in anticipation of possible investigations stemming from these revelations. There’s been a cycle of contracts and agreements with news networks, and, well, it feels like we’re seeing the same usual suspects recur in these discussions.
John Brennan, Former CIA Director
John Brennan has emerged as a central figure in the alleged manipulation of intelligence assessments surrounding Russian interference. His prior testimony to Congress—that materials like the Steele dossier weren’t part of intelligence evaluations—now seems at odds with new documents. It turns out he actively pushed for it to be included, despite objections from seasoned experts within the CIA.
Brennan even went as far as to suggest that Russian support was pivotal for Trump during the election. It’s curious, isn’t it? He initially described a plan where Hillary Clinton would create a scandal related to Russian interference, and not long after, he was incorporating documents that were funded by her campaign.
James Clapper, Former Director of National Intelligence
Then there’s James Clapper. He had a front-row seat during the developments in 2016 and seemed hopeful regarding the situation, at least initially. However, he later claimed that Russia didn’t appear to have influenced the elections in any significant way. Clapper has repeatedly maintained that he had high confidence in assertions regarding Russian meddling, even signing letters dismissing other narratives entirely, most notably concerning the Hunter Biden laptop. There’s a certain irony there, I think, as he was part of a narrative that is now under scrutiny.
James Comey, Former FBI Director
Looking at James Comey, he used flawed intelligence to kick off investigations that dominated Trump’s presidency. The FBI was aware early on that the Steele dossier was dubious and that some Trump associates were not involved in espionage, yet they pressed on. It makes you wonder about the integrity of the information they were acting upon.
