Brent Rooker Responds to Heckler at All-Star Home Run Derby
After a heckler suggested that Brent Rooker give a bottle to his child during the All-Star Home Run Derby, the Oakland Athletics slugger addressed fans on social media. Rooker, 30, was seen on ESPN’s broadcast with a bottle next to his 11-month-old daughter, Blake Eloise, in the dugout.
Although Rooker hit 17 home runs, he was knocked out in the first round of the event. Afterward, he took to social media to congratulate Seattle Mariners’ Cal Raleigh, who won his first All-Star Home Run Derby.
“What an explosive event! It was an honor to compete and fulfill a childhood dream,” Rooker shared in a post on X.
However, not everyone was pleased. One user on X criticized Rooker, saying, “Hey, Rooker… Did you have to feed a baby on camera? Sometimes people just want to see you play.”
Rooker didn’t shy away from the comment, responding, “Yes, I had to feed my 11-month-old a bottle around 9 PM. Thanks for asking.”
Surprisingly, many social media followers sided with Rooker. One user expressed, “I think it’s great to see parents caring for their kids. That’s the real home run.” Another chimed in, “Feeding 17 home runs and kids? That’s impressive.”
Some commenters noted the challenges professional athletes face with parenting. “He probably doesn’t get to help with feeding often. Maybe he just wants to lighten the load for his wife,” one noted.
Rooker wrapped up his All-Star outing with a three-run homer during Tuesday’s game, helping the National League come back from a 6-0 deficit. He finished the game with a 2-for-3 record during a swing-off tiebreaker, although the National League eventually lost 7-6.
