Aidan Stokes Signs Loan Deal with Brentford

Aidan Stokes, an 18-year-old goalkeeper from the U.S. youth national team and a prospect with Red Bull New York, is set to join Premier League club Brentford on loan, as confirmed on Wednesday.

He’ll be part of Brentford’s Premier League 2 team, which functions as the development league for English football. The terms of the loan arrangement include an option for Brentford to purchase his contract outright.

Earlier reports from Daniel Ribain at Area Sports Network indicated that the deal was in the works late on Tuesday.

Stokes hails from Totowa, New Jersey, and began his footballing journey with the Red Bulls Academy, progressing from the U-15 to U-17 levels. He signed a four-year contract with MLS in April 2023, which runs until 2027, with a potential extension to 2028.

On the national scene, Stokes has been making a name for himself, having been called to the U.S. U-18 camp in Portugal last March and the U-19 camp in May.

During the 2025 U-17 World Cup, he played four matches, achieving two shutouts while conceding just two goals. His background gives him eligibility to represent both Wales and England, and he has been called up by both national teams. He played for Wales’ U-16s in 2023 and later for England in 2024.

For the past three seasons, Stokes has been with the Red Bulls’ development team, making his MLS Next Pro debut against Philadelphia Union II on April 21, 2024. Remarkably, he started 18 games in the 2024 season.

He was also part of the Red Bulls II team that won the MLS NEXT Pro Cup in 2025 and has made seven appearances for the developmental team this current season.

Aidan is the son of former Welsh semi-professional goalkeeper Nick Stokes. He often expresses his admiration for his father’s passion for the game. “I started because my father encouraged me to do it,” Stokes mentioned on a podcast. “He played throughout my childhood, and that inspired my own love for football.”
