Bret Baier and Iran’s Foreign Minister Engage in Tense Discussion Following Ayatollah’s Threat to Trump

Interview Highlights Tensions Between the U.S. and Iran

During an interview on Wednesday, Fox News anchor Bret Baier engaged in a heated discussion with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding Iran’s nuclear aspirations and the Supreme Leader’s recent threats aimed at President Donald Trump.

On Monday, Supreme Leader Khamenei shared a striking image likening President Trump to an ancient pharaoh, suggesting that, much like past tyrants, he would eventually face downfall. Baier challenged Araghchi’s claims that Iran’s nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes, questioning the need for an enrichment facility located deep underground. He remarked, “A legitimate peaceful nuclear program typically isn’t buried a mile deep, which raises concern.”

Araghchi countered, alleging that President Trump hampered diplomatic efforts by opting for military action. He stated, “President Trump showed his anti-diplomacy stance when he attacked us in June and halted communications.” He further urged Trump to focus on reality instead of misinformation that could lead to war.

Baier pressed on, referencing Khamenei’s demeaning rhetoric towards Trump and the unlikelihood of negotiations. “If your leader mocks Trump, why would he make an effort to engage?” he asked.

In response, Araghchi insisted that negotiations with the U.S. had occurred multiple times with the Supreme Leader’s approval. He recounted a previous negotiation that began in 2015, which ended unfavorably for Iran when the U.S. withdrew from the agreement without cause. “Why would we negotiate again under those circumstances?” he argued, asserting that U.S. talks often imply a desire for dominance rather than genuine negotiation.

Please note that unrest has erupted in Tehran, with chaotic protests leading to accusations from Khamenei that Trump incited violence supported by foreign influences. In reaction to the turmoil, authorities have restricted internet and phone services, as videos emerged of widespread arson. Khamenei rebuffed the protests, labeling demonstrators as “subversives” and indicating that the Islamic Republic would firmly resist what he termed U.S.-inspired chaos.

“The blood of countless honorable individuals helped establish this Republic. We will not yield to destruction,” Khamenei asserted.

The Iranian economy has been struggling, compounded by soaring prices and U.S. pressures, which sparked recent social unrest. These protests echoed memories of the 1979 revolution that saw the monarchy overthrown. Tensions escalated following airstrikes authorized by President Trump in June against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and threats made to intervene if Iran used lethal force against peaceful protestors. Trump reiterated that the U.S. stands ready for further action should Iran attempt to advance its nuclear ambitions.
