Brett Batty Shines in Mets’ Victory Against Royals

Brett Batty continued his impressive performance in the Mets’ recent 6-2 victory over the Royals.

During the eighth inning, he came through with a crucial two-run hit that boosted the lead to 4-1 at Citi Field.

This marked Batty’s eighth consecutive game with a hit, an improvement following a rough patch in June where he struggled with a .147 batting average.

Before this game, his season stats were a modest .218/.296/.306.

Interim manager Andy Green praised the coaching staff for helping Batty refine his approach, particularly emphasizing increased action on the pole side.

He noted that focusing on hitting doubles toward that side made Batty more of a threat, while also maintaining power on hits to the opposite field.

Yet, Batty himself seemed to disagree slightly, showcasing a bit of modesty as he credited his pre-game routine and insisted he was just trying to “hit the ball hard.”

Interestingly, Batty mentioned that while he’s known for his power, he lost track of that earlier in the season. He’s been in a home run drought since May 18.

He found it helpful to clear his mind, focusing less on the outcome and more on making solid contact with the ball.

“He allows himself to swing and miss, but he can’t change who he is,” Green commented, reflecting on Batty’s approach at the plate. “I really feel like he gives it his all at the plate and trusts himself.”

Batty’s vital hit, coupled with the Mets’ victory, might just be the boost the team needs as they head toward the All-Star break and the looming trade deadline.

He expressed that the win creates “good momentum,” especially as they look to clinch the series against the Royals on Thursday.

According to Batty, momentum has been building since key players like Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto returned to the lineup.

“Throughout this season, we’ve learned what we’re capable of offensively,” he said. “It’s about going out there and doing it every night.”

His offensive skills were clearly on display in that pivotal eighth inning when the Mets turned a 1-1 tie into a commanding lead with five hits and five runs.
