Brett Baty leads Mets’ revamped lineup to victory against Red Sox, ending their losing streak

BOSTON – Mets Celebrate Victory at Fenway

Brett Baty, full of excitement, runs the bases, pumping his fist as Mets fans at Fenway Park erupted in cheer.

After a tough week, this game marked a small victory for manager Carlos Mendoza’s team.

The Mets managed to score late, with Baty making a significant impact on Wednesday night.

His two-run single in the seventh inning propelled the Mets to a 5-1 win over the Red Sox, putting an end to their three-game losing streak.

Baty ended up with three RBIs, helping to avert what would have been their first sweep of the season.

Initially, Baty was in the lineup for his defensive skills against the Red Sox’s ace lefty, Garrett Cleavinger, but he ended up leading a reconfigured batting order.

Interestingly, Juan Soto and Pete Alonso were moved down to the third and fourth spots, respectively, while Starling Marte took the second position for this game. Mendoza seems willing to experiment with Soto and Alonso’s placements for upcoming series.

Francisco Lindor hit off the Green Monster, breaking the Mets’ six-game scoring drought.

Before this game, the Mets were struggling at the plate, with a meager 3-12 average with runners in scoring position. They had previously recorded a terrible .114 average in such situations over the past six games.

In fact, the Mets had not scored more than three runs in any of their last seven games.

Last weekend, the Mets wrapped up a road trip at 2-4, losing a series against the Yankees. They now face another tough schedule, with the defending World Series champion Dodgers coming to Citi Field for a three-game series starting Friday.

Tylor Megill tied his career high with 10 strikeouts, allowing just four hits and one walk in 4 2/3 innings. He was pulled after 85 pitches, right when he faced a bases-loaded situation in the fifth.

Soto was active, facing Cleavinger three times. After striking out six times on seven pitches in his first two at-bats, he swung and missed twice against Cleavinger during his third at-bat, which led to Cleavinger’s exit from the game.
