Brett Baty’s Remarkable Return Boosts Mets to Victory Against Dodgers
Brett Baty’s impressive resurgence played a key role in the Mets’ 5-2 victory over the Dodgers on Saturday.
Batty, batting ninth in his second start in three games, reached base four times and logged multiple hits for the third consecutive game.
He contributed significantly to the Mets’ first run, getting a solid hit that measured 105 mph to the right side, allowing Jared Young to score and narrowing the Dodgers’ lead to 2-1.
In the fourth inning, Batty helped the Mets keep the rally alive. After a four-pitch walk to Francisco Lindor, an infield hit by Starling Marte brought in another run, with Van Soto following up with a two-run double that put the Mets ahead.
Batty added an infield hit in the sixth inning and capped off his night with an RBI double in the eighth.
“I just want to help the team win,” Baty commented. “It’s satisfying to hit the ball hard.”
This game was part of a broader impressive stretch for Baty, who had two hits, including a homer, while contributing three runs in a matchup against Boston earlier this week.
Before the game, manager Carlos Mendoza was asked if Baty’s position at the bottom of the lineup was influenced by the balance of left-handed and right-handed batters. He clarified that it was more about keeping Baty comfortable.
It’s interesting, though, considering Baty hadn’t reached the ninth spot until Wednesday, which seems a bit contradictory. Mendoza even joked about how hard it is to keep Baty down the lineup.
Baty remarked that while it may seem surprising, he’s focused on playing well, regardless of where he bats. Given his performance since coming back from Triple-A Syracuse, he might just secure regular playing time moving forward.
Interestingly, Batty returned to action right when Jeff McNeil came off the injured list on April 24.
After going hitless in his first game back from injury, Baty has turned it around significantly, posting a stellar 1.047 OPS over the last 13 games leading up to Saturday.
When asked if his confidence had improved since rejoining the Mets or if he felt a change in energy, Baty said, “I’m just trying to stay consistent every day and focus on swinging at good pitches… I want to be in the lineup every day.”
If he continues this level of performance, Mendoza will likely keep him in the lineup, regardless of his spot. It’s exciting to see where this momentum might take him and the team.
