Brett Favre Opens Up About Parkinson’s Disease Diagnosis

Former Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre has shared his experiences with Parkinson’s disease, a diagnosis he received last year while speaking on Capitol Hill regarding welfare reform.

In a recent appearance on the “Sage Steel Show,” Favre discussed the daily challenges he faces due to the condition. He mentioned, “I’ve been having a hard time swallowing. At times, I feel like I’m choking, which is obviously quite frightening since there isn’t a solution for it. I try to keep a positive mindset, focusing on getting through each day.”

He also expressed concerns about the progression of his symptoms. “I think it’s getting a bit worse. It happens more frequently now, in the daytime and even at night. Sometimes I just don’t understand it,” he noted, reflecting on how he grapples with the reality of his condition.

Favre admitted to fears about the future, saying, “Even though I know I shouldn’t think this way, I constantly wonder: Is this going to affect me as I get older? Am I losing control to this illness? Those thoughts linger in my mind.”

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in January 2024. The disease itself is known to be neurodegenerative, leading to various motor symptoms such as tremors and stiffness, along with non-motor issues like anxiety, sleep disturbances, and digestive problems.

In the United States alone, nearly one million individuals are living with Parkinson’s, and the number is projected to reach 1.2 million by 2030.
