Milwaukee Brewers’ Aaron Civale Demands Deal on His Birthday
Aaron Civale marked his 30th birthday on Thursday, calling for a deal from his team, the Milwaukee Brewers. Recently, the right-handed pitcher was moved to the bullpen after Jakob Misiorowski impressed with a no-hit performance during his debut, though he left the game with a leg cramp.
This transition to the bullpen wasn’t just a routine move; it triggered a formal response from fans who were asked to celebrate the occasion on social media, which seemed a bit ironic given the circumstances.
While the Brewers acknowledged the fans’ reactions on Friday, the praise was somewhat backhanded. Civale is now on his way to join the Chicago White Sox, a team that, not long ago, set an unfortunate record for most losses in a single season since 1901.
The White Sox had a dismal record of 41-121 last season, just three years after they were celebrating a successful run in the postseason. They ended up 51 games behind the division-leading Guardians in Cleveland. Meanwhile, the Colorado Rockies are having their own rough season, currently holding a record of 13-55, which projects a pace of 30-142—significantly worse than the White Sox.
The White Sox continue to struggle, with a tally of 46 losses against just 23 wins this season. On a brighter note for Milwaukee, they acquired Andrew Vaughn, a noteworthy prospect. Vaughn was the third overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, but he hasn’t quite met expectations, currently hitting a disappointing .189.
Civale began his career with the Cleveland Guardians, achieving a 3.77 ERA over five seasons. Since being traded from Tampa Bay to Milwaukee last year, he has only started five games this season, with an ERA of 4.91. Milwaukee currently sits 5.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central standings.
